Expert Reviews

96 Points James Halliday Halliday Wine Companion 2018

This is an exceptionally good cabernet by whatever standards you choose. It is extremely intense, yet its impact only catches you in a silken web, the tannins – while very much present – are so soft, the aromas and flavours are from another realm. Cedar, violets, spices, bay leaf and – of course – blackcurrant.

Rated : 95 Points Campbell Mattinson, The WineFront.com, 1st March 2018 The WineFront.com

Single vineyard. Vines planted 1973. 90% cabernet sauvignon but cabernet franc (5%), malbec (2%), merlot (2%) and petit verdot make contributions. 457 dozen made. Released 4-5 years post harvest.

It’s a wine of elegance and power. It marshals the various components and presents them on a polished platter. Blackcurrant, mint, cedarwood, redcurrant and violets. Milk chocolate, just a touch. A fine mesh of tannin, al dente. Beautiful. Textbook.

Score 94/100 Ray Jordan, The West Australian Wine Guide 2018

One of the most stylish and elegant of Juniper's cabernets. Beautifully poised and presented with perfect tannin and oak integration. Leafy blackcurrant fruit with a trace of savoury tobacco leaf infusion. Comes off old dry-grown vines that pump so much smooth intensity and concentration into the frui. A wine with some longer-term cellaring potential.

Winery Tasting Notes

Aromatics of cedar, violets, dried herbs, blackcurrant, cherry, plum and dark chocolate while the palate reflects the aroma along with plush fruit texture fine, silken tannins of almost ethereal quality. The 2013 vintage was characterised by warm days & cool nights, allowing our Cabernet to display complex fruit characters while still maintaining a wonderful sense of balance. This wine displays all the hallmarks of a classic Margaret River Cabernet and will reward patient cellaring of at least 15 years.
