Wine Summary Image

Jean-Marc Brocard is a white wine producer located in Chablis, France. Brocard is exported to nearly 50 countries and is best known for producing Chardonnay from each appellation of Chablis: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, and Chablis Grand Cru.

Jean-Marc Brocard’s first vintage was in 1973 from a one hectare (2.5 acre) plot of land in Préhy, south-west of Chablis, that he and his wife were gifted a year prior. From one hectare to around 200 (294 acres), Jean-Marc has purchased and contracts some of the oldest and best land in Chablis to make wines that are fresh, mineral driven, and expressive of each appellation. Vines are planted to Kimmeridgian soils which are composed of heavy chalk, limestone, and fossilized oyster shells.

Jean-Marc Brocard is an independent family company and Jean-Marc’s son, Julien, operates as CEO. Julien has been instrumental to the improved health of estate vineyards and since joining the family domaine in 1995, 60ha (148 acres) have been certified organic and 40ha (99 acres) biodynamic.

Jean-Marc Brocard’s winemaking style is traditional to the region. He harvests and vinifies vineyards separately to showcase the unique terroir of each wine and uses no new oak. Brocard’s Chablis Premier Cru climats (vineyard sites), including Fourchaume, Montée de Tonnerre, Montmains, and Butteaux, are mainly produced in stainless steel, while the impressive Grand Cru climats, Blanchots, Bougros, Grenouilles, and Les Clos, are vinified and aged in large wooden foudres.

Beyond Chablis, Jean-Marc Brocard produces some wine from nearby appellations in the Burgundy region including a Sauvignon Blanc from Saint-Bris and Pinot Noir from Irancy.
