Wine Summary Image

Half of the fruit comes from our clay-rich hillside Raupo Creek vineyard, which as a gentle north-west facing aspect, settled in the centre of the Omaka. The other proportion is drawn from our Noa vineyard at the western end of the Wairau Valley.

The Seresin Estate Pinot Gris 2016 hails from certified organic and biodynamic grapes that were handpicked, whole bunch pressed and lightly settled, before being fermented with wild yeast, with 40% in old oak barriques to be aged for six months on lees. In addition, this was the first year we trialled utilising skin contact for a portion of the wine, which has added a different level of interest and a further dimension to the palate structure.

After final filtration and bottling, the Pinot Gris was aged for another four months in bottle before release.

Rating 91 - Tasted by Tina Gellie(at County Hall, London, 15 Jan 2018) Part of New Zealand wines to try: Beyond Sauvignon Decanter Biodynamic whole-bunch pressed fruit finishes its wild yeast fermentation in old barriques before being left on its lees for six months to gain complexity and a textural, creamy mouthfeel. This is wonderfully autumnal and vital, with fine peach sweetness, ripe yellow apple crispness and a lift of meadow flowers. The off-dry Memento Riesling is also worth seeking out.

Winery Tasting Notes

Whole-bunch pressed and matured in old French oak barrels, this Pinot Gris offers an excelent balance between white stone fruits and a soft well structured acidity. The nose exhibits notes of gently spiced orchard fruits, hay and ripe white peach. The palate is textural, with layers of soft stone-fruit, savoury warm brioche and a refreshing dart of preserved-lemon acidity. Certified organic and biodynamically grown. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. No dairy products or eggs used during production.
