Wine Summary Image

Season - A record wet start to Winter and Spring gave soil moisture a good head start to the ripening/growing season. The increased cloud cover kept us below average in the solar radiation stakes, which made for a long ripening period. A three week later start than usual meant that harvest did not finish until after Easter. The Summer was dry and warm keeping disease pressure at bay.

Winemaking - Gris de Gris or Grey from Grey is the term used to make a white/Rosé wine from red coloured grapes. Pinot Grigio is a grey variety as the fruit appears red, but this wine is also blended with a splash of Pinot Noir. Both the Grigio & Noir were made as you would any white wine. Pinot Grigio is left on skins for half a day to extract the lovely colour and flavour. A portion is also naturally fermented in old French oak casks to add some creaminess.

Paler than pale Rosé, textural & gluggable. Aromas of red apples and pears.

Winery Profile

De Bortoli Wines is a third generation family wine company established by Vittorio and Giuseppina De Bortoli in 1928. The couple emigrated to Australia from Northern Italy, from mountain villages at the foothills of the Italian Alps, near the historic town of Asolo.

Their son, the energetic and dynamic Deen De Bortoli, (b 1936 – d 2003) expanded and consolidated the business created by his parents. Deen's children established De Bortoli's reputation for premium wine including icon dessert wine Noble One and the Yarra Valley wines.

Italian family values passed down from Vittorio remain core values, there is a culture of hard work, generosity of spirit and of sharing good food, good wine and good times with family and friends.
