Expert Reviews

James Suckling

93 Points

A ripe and rich pinot with lots of dried-fruit and spice character. Some coffee, too. Medium to full body. Flavorful finish. Drink now.

Winery Tasting Notes

Colour

Medium- intensity ruby.

Aroma

Complex nose of black raspberry, cherry and savoury undertones of dry mocha and earthy notes.

Palate

A torrent of blood plum and black cherry dance on the palate intertwined with savoury gamey flavours. The intensity of the fruit and savoury notes is well supported by a fine grain tannin and excellent acidity. A very well balanced palate with the potential to age.

Food Matching

Smoked duck breast with roast beetroot and heirloom carrot.

Medals & Trophies

Silver Medal - Class 19, 2019/18 Pinot Noir - 2019 Wine Show of Western Australia

Winery Profile

Plantagenet takes its name not only from its home, but also from its heritage. In 1968 in a stroke of serendipity English migrant Tony Smith, himself a descendent of the Plantagenet's, invested his small inheritance in a farm called Bouverie in Western Australia’s Plantagenet Shire.

He first planted Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon followed by Riesling three years later.

The first wines from these young vines were tight and lean and showed the elegant spice and fruit characters for which this area was to become known.
