Selective hand picking, gentle whole bunch pressing directly to barrel, wild or 'free range' yeast and lees stirring are all techniques aimed at producing a complex yet naturally balanced wine with a cellaring potential of up to 10 years.

'Lots happening in this excellent chardonnay. There’s a slightly funky aromatic at play here, then the palate features such beautiful textural qualities. It’s creamy, with butterscotch and grapefruit mealy characters delivering the perfect touch. Light flick of struck match adds further complexity on the finish.

Winery Tasting Notes

A complex and alluring nose with smoky flinty aromas from the wild ferment plus lemon zest, jasmine, white stone fruit, ginger and freshly baked honey/oatmeal biscuits from the oak. While there is an element of restraint and poise, the palate has wonderful fleshy stone fruit texture and flavour along with citrus, pear, roasted almonds and nougat with smooth mouth watering acidity guiding the long finish.

Winery Profile

Juniper Estate is a producer of premium wines in Wilyabrup, the heart of the Margaret River winegrowing area. It is one of the oldest vineyards in the area. No sub-region has been historically more important in the success of Margaret River than Wilyabrup, where the first vineyards were planted and wineries built and which continues to be home to a disproportionately large number of famous, usually small, vineyards.

Winemaker

Mark Messenger has been the Winemaker at Juniper Estate since 1998. He has responsibility for production of all Juniper wines and is supported by an experienced team in the winery and the vineyard. Mark was Assistant Winemaker at Cape Mentelle, in Margaret River, from 1990 to 1998. Mark’s experience lies in producing premium Margaret River wines, using the best quality grapes, oak and other materials, and that is his mission at Juniper Estate.
