Winery Tasting Notes

Monument Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon shows a beautiful garnet colour. The bouquet of the wine exudes scintillating aromas of bramble and blackberry. The captivating palate is dry and dense with dark fruit, and is supported by balanced tannins. Exhibiting varietal characters, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a satisfying and serious red wine. It pairs extremely well with steak, red meat, and hard cheeses such as aged Cheddar or Gouda.

Winery Profile

Brand Profile Image

The original concept for Monument Vineyard originated in the early 1990's by a group of Charles Sturt University Viticulture and Wine Science students. After research into the wine growing areas of NSW, the Orange region was decided upon as the perfect location to realise their dream of establishing a vineyard and producing wine. In recent years, this district, has developed a reputation for wines with intense flavours and complexity. The well drained, terra rosa soil of Cudal revealed an environment with great potential for large scale production of premium grade wine.

In October 1998, the first 50 hectares of vines were planted with the remaining blocks established the following year. An experimental block was established to trial new varieties, clones, root stocks and viticulture techniques.

In November 2009, Jones family continued the dream with vineyard management directed and motivated towards quality grape growing and the use of modern grape production techniques in order to ensure excellent future vintages.

Andrew, Phillip and Stephen

Andrew, Phillip and Stephen Jones grew up on the family property in Kurrajong Heights. From an early age the boys were involved in various farming ventures including managing the family farm and orchard as well as running market stalls across Sydney selling eggs and chickens. They pride themselves to this day on growing quality produce and supplying to well known Australian businesses including ‘Aussie Farmer’s Direct’, ‘IGA’ and ‘Establishment 218’.

In 1992, Jones Bros. Family Farm was founded. Soon after, the boys leased their first egg farm. From there, they have gone on to produce and supply eggs to greater Sydney and beyond.

In 2009 they purchased ‘Monument Vineyard’, giving them the unique opportunity to further their interest and love of wine while expanding their egg business at the same time. Today the property boasts not only a 250-acre vineyard, but also a state-of- the-art cage free poultry farm and over 100 head of cattle.

Danielle, Shirley and Sophie

These three dynamic and enthusiastic women can be found helping out when needed with the daily running of ‘Monument Vineyard’ as well as promoting the wine at various festivals, shows and markets throughout the year.

Danielle has been working in the office for Jones Brothers since it’s inception and is looking forward to extending her repertoire into wine sales. Shirley is exploring the possibilities of promoting our wine to Asia and beyond. Sophie is a primary school teacher and, whilst on maternity leave, is enjoying taking on the challenge of the marketing and PR role at ‘Monument Vineyard’.

The Jones family is excited about their new venture into wine and look forward to extending their skills of sales and business into the field of vineyard management and wine production.
